Maternal mental health FAQ
Is postpartum anxiety different from postpartum depression?
Yes — postpartum anxiety is characterized by excessive worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, and fear, while postpartum depression often involves persistent sadness, numbness, and loss of interest. Both are very common and very treatable. Many women experience both simultaneously.
When is it okay to start therapy during pregnancy?
Any time. Prenatal therapy is genuinely beneficial — it helps you process fears, prepare emotionally for birth and motherhood, and build coping tools before postpartum challenges arrive. You don't have to wait until you're struggling.
Can I do sessions with a newborn at home?
Absolutely. That's one of the biggest advantages of virtual therapy — you can do sessions from home, during nap time, or wherever works for you. We'll be flexible and understanding about the realities of new parenthood.
Does insurance cover postpartum therapy?
I'm in-network with Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oscar, and Oxford. Many insurance plans cover therapy for postpartum and perinatal conditions. I also provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Contact us and we'll help you understand your coverage.
