How Much Does Therapy Cost?
Starting therapy is a meaningful investment in your mental health, but understanding the costs upfront can help you feel more prepared and confident. At Laura Abreu Therapy, we’re committed to providing clear, transparent pricing so you can focus on your growth without unexpected surprises.
Out-of-Pocket Pricing
Many of our clients choose to pay out of pocket for the flexibility and privacy it offers. Here’s a breakdown of our session rates:
First Session: $200 (60 minutes)
Regular Session: $175 (53 minutes)
Paying out of pocket allows you to have greater control over your therapy experience, from choosing the frequency of sessions to the types of therapeutic approaches we use.
If you’re planning to pay out of pocket for therapy, you have the right to receive a **Good Faith Estimate** under the No Surprises Act. This estimate outlines the expected costs of services before you begin treatment, so there are no financial surprises down the road. Your therapist will provide a written estimate that includes the total anticipated cost of therapy sessions based on your treatment plan. It’s not a contract, and you’re not locked into a specific number of sessions—but it gives you a clear understanding of what to expect financially. This transparency helps you make informed decisions about your care and ensures that your investment in your mental health is both intentional and predictable.
Insurance Options
We also accept several insurance plans to make therapy more accessible. We are in-network with:
Aetna
Cigna
United Healthcare
Oscar
Oxford
If you’re unsure whether your insurance plan covers therapy, we recommend contacting your provider directly or reaching out to us—we’re happy to help you navigate your benefits.
Out of Network Options
If you don’t have any of the insurances listed above but also feel like you can’t afford to pay out of pocket, do not fret! There is another option to explore called out of network where you can still utilize your insurance. When a therapist is considered "out-of-network," it means they don’t have a contract with your health insurance provider—but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on your own when it comes to payment. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits, which can reimburse you for a portion of the therapy costs. Typically, you’d have to pay the therapist directly, then submit a claim to your insurance company using a “superbill” (an itemized receipt your therapist can provide). At Laura Abreu Therapy we make this process even easier for you by partnering with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits.
Mentaya is perfect if you:
• Have out-of-network benefits
• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement
• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!
Here's how it works:
1. Sign up for Mentaya: https://mentaya.co/inviteclient/J8F3nBifp6bNNpEAijdb
2. Our practice will enter your sessions into the platform.
3. Mentaya submits the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.
4. You get reimbursed by insurance!
Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which includes handling any paperwork required,
dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies.
It's risk-free: They guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees.
